I, Robert H. Dickerson was born June 13, 1954.  Since the year of 1968 at the young age of 14, while growing up in Darby and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania I became involved and joined organizations dedicated in helping at-risk  communities.  This experience gave me the ideas, knowledge, experience and strength to start the Unity Community Center.  In 1983, my wife Wanda and I started the Unity Community Center, a non-profit organization in Camden, New Jersey.  Since that time we have been to hundreds of funerals and many who were killed by violence.  In most cases these young people grew up in families that had dysfunction, relationship and family problems.  They also grew up in communities with many of the social ills that will destroy families and communities.  My wife Wanda Dickerson and our family have developed a methodology of programs designed to help youth, families and communities at-risk.  Our programs and performing arts have made local, regional, national and international acclaim.  We have also been blessed with being able to keep most of our skilled instructors and teachers active with us for many years.  However, thousands of young people did participate in our programs since 1983 and have made great accomplishments in life.  Unfortunately there were some that we have lost back to the streets, in the penitentiary system, poverty and death through violence.  My message is strongly for all parents, grandparents, guardians, family and friends.  We want you to study us, understand and appreciate our highly skilled experience in community development.  Help us to help you with your children and the young people of the community.

    I also pray that all parents, grandparents and guardians understand the value of our methodology of programs at the Unity Community Center and encourage their children and keep their children in our center.  Never let them quit, because you would have developed a quitter in life. Allow us to help you develop your children.  Parents and especially grandparents, please allow us to help you develop your children.  There were many testimonies told to us acknowledging the fact that they (parents) wish that they would have kept their children in our programs.  Most of these parents were to busy enabling their children to be quitters.  We have heard many weak excuses of why they allowed their children to quit.  Now, today many of them have fell into the traps of destruction, poverty and bad health.    Encourage them, direct them, support them, and sacrifice for your children.  Remember CHILDREN the FUTURE.
