ABOUT JAMAL- Jamal P. Dickerson, the eldest son of Mr. & Mrs. Robert
Dickerson, was born into the arts. He was taught the art of dance and drum from some
of the best and greatest teachers from Guinea (West Africa), Moussa Diabate &
Tenenfig Dioubate. Moussa and Tenenfig were lead members of the best
African Ballets in West Africa for many years. Jamal was also taught by some of the
best teachers in the United States of America. Some of his teachings consists
of the Conga family of drums and the Djembe family of drums. This CD is the
DJEMBE family of drums, in honor of our African Family. Jamal is also a
graduate of MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in MUSIC
EDUCATION. Jamal is currently a music school teacher in the Camden,
New Jersey Public School District. He is also the Chief Choreographer &
Artistic Director of our African Dance & Drum Ensemble.
We should honor, respect and appreciate the culture
from which African-Americans of this country originated. SIT
